Gay Brighton

The seaside city is known as Britain’s unofficial gay capital, claiming the country’s highest proportion of same-sex households. The city is famous for its open attitude, its vivacious nightlife and of course its annual Brighton Pride extravaganza - an annual summer festival that usually runs for an entire weekend. You’ll find the whole city to be LGBTQ friendly, but if you’re looking to experience gay Brighton at its best, you’ll be happy to know that Kemptown is the bustling heart of the LGBTQ community.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Brighton became a clandestine destination for the LGBTQ community and in the 1930s, the city started to flourish as a gay haven. Whispers of Brighton’s unique diversions, as well a its special pleasures, helped turn it into a gay destination in the post-war years.

Brighton Pride is arguably the UK’s biggest pride festival gathering over 170,000 people annually. This pride consists of various events including a huge gay party in the gay village, a dog show and a film festival. The festival’s aim is to celebrate pride with purpose, raising awareness and funds to support local charities and communities. So being a part of the Brighton Pride means celebrating your queer spirit and partying for a good cause both at the same time.

If you are looking for a seachange with an LGBTQ difference in the UK, head south to Brighton and experience your pride.
