Two years of a global pandemic showing no signs of abating have taken a toll on so many of us, in so many different ways. If you are feeling the effects of yet another wave of Covid, you are not alone. In 2020, 26% or 52 million U.S. adults, experienced mental illness. Around one billion people globally are estimated to have a mental or substance use disorder.
It’s a fact that our mental health needs a wellness boost. With winter here and the spreading virus, and because we care deeply about our hosts and guests, we want to help you make this time easier and beneficial. That’s why we are partnering with ExtendaTouch, a free innovative digital platform bringing caregivers together to support one another, anonymously and privately.
The founders’ vision is to relieve overwhelmed partners or families and paid caregivers worldwide and to produce better outcomes for those needing chronic or occasional care. They offer in one place otherwise widely disseminated information and provide access to local nonprofits to help simplify and improve the caregiving process. Family and professional caregivers have enormous amounts of knowledge and experience to share and ExtendaTouch is exactly the place to share lessons learned, tips, and support.
We know and trust the 3 founders, 2 of them prominent Bay Area entrepreneurs and longtime LGBTQA activists. Andy Cramer founded gay.net and gay.com in the 90s, and brought together 4 million gay men who were isolated and lonely. Andy’s husband of 25 years, Al Farmer, produced the technology behind the platform. Their third partner, Bill Carson, is a certified psychiatrist who believes that talking openly about your issues with another person who understands you is a great way to make new friends and promote wellness.
misterb&b will provide hosts and guests access to a free caregiver account at ExtendaTouch.
"While the world is suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic there is a severe shortage of caregivers," said Matthieu Jost, misterb&b CEO & Co-Founder. "ExtendaTouch allows paid and non-paid caregivers to access services and support each other. Think of Next Door, exclusively for the underserved caregiver market. We want all members of our community to have access to this much-needed service."
"There is no unified caregiver community that provides a broad sense of protection, support and belonging until now," said Andy Cramer, Founder of ExtendaTouch. "Our mission is to help relieve the stress and isolation that comes with caregiving by creating a platform to help caregivers navigate the complexities associated with caring for others."
ExtendaTouch is a support network that enables fast, private, personal connections. Profiles are anonymous to avoid any fear of stigma associated with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to allow you to discuss sensitive topics, including mental health, addiction, AIDS or cancer.
Whether or not you are traveling, we have secured free membership for all of you to help you through this winter. So, enjoy the luxury of talking about what is really on your mind and appreciate the anonymity. We hope you make new friends, get help with some issues. Make plans with misterb&b and let us help you relish a well-deserved vacation!
