The 3rd edition of Rainbow Reykjavik, Reykjavik’s International LGBT Festival is set to start on January 30 in Iceland and will last until February 2. This is an excellent opportunity to explore this very gay-friendly and charming island, where all couples enjoy the right to marriage and adoption. Music, culture, gastronomy, nature, relaxation and of course clubbing, this is what this winter gay festival is all about.
Water falls, glaciers and geysers… In the heart of a unique scenery, participants from around the world will indeed enjoy the rich and varied program of this international festival and discover the hardships but also the often magical spectacle of the great North.
It will all start with a bath in the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s must-do, a geothermal source often referred as one of the wonders of nature (see photo below). After a welcome dinner, the first party will take place at the ' Slipp bar".
On the next day, participants will visit Reykjavik, from a gay perspective (Pink City Walk), but also visit the "Museum of the penis", en joy a traditional breakfast and some free time during the afternoon, before a big party in the evening.
On the third and final day, participants will be exploring the wilds of the island: Gullfoss waterfalls, Geysir, Thingvellir National Park and the village of Laugarvatn, Seljalandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the southern coast of the island with stunning views of glaciers circuit. The day will end with a banquet and a concert.
Those who wish may add a few days before or after the festival, to enjoy more of this journey, for example to observe the whales or climb the snowy mountains by quad.
You should be warned that yes, nights are longer than days. And yes, it is (very) cold, but not colder than in New York at the same time of the year. And you may even be lucky enough to spot an Aurora Borealis.
