The neighbourhood 'De Pijp' one of the most popular in Amsterdam for its central location, the Albert Cuyp street market, plenty of restaurants and bars and little shops.
Start your day early at the corner coffee bar and see the street filling with people and bikes while you enjoy your coffee with a nice muffin or - a personal favourite - the millionaire's shortbread.
Get some groceries at the supermarket around the corner or even better at the famous Albert Cuyp streetmarket with every day fresh fish, vegetables and flowers. Stroll the market for some cloathing or souvenirs and get some typical 'Dutch' streetfood such as poffertjes, stroopwafels, fries (patat) with mayonnaise (or get a 'patatje oorlog met uitjes' if you really want to go local). If you'd like to do some more luxury shopping then just walk 20 mins to the P.C. Hooftstraat (Chanel, Hermes, etc) or the somewhat more affordable Utrechtsestraat. Art and antiques lovers will also enjoy the adjacent neighbourhood the Spiegelkwartier with over 70 specialized galleries and dealers.
If you are ready for some more culture and art it is just a 15 minute walk to the Museum Plein (museum square) with the Rijksmuseum (Dutch masters Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals), the Van Gogh museum and the (modern) Stedelijk museum as well as the Royal Concerthall.
After sniffing some culture it is time to get some fresh air lying on the Museum square grass or strolling the Vondelpark where you will see the full diversity of Amsterdam city life.
Head back to your temporary home away from home and take a nap or just a quick shower before hitting some of the many bars and restaurants all at walking distance.
Tip! Checkout our Guidebook in the Maps section where we have added these and plenty of other places to visit that we think are worthwile.
Really Amsterdam is best done on foot or by bike. There is a Halfords store with bike rental just few blocks away.
Public transport is also around the corner with several tram lines closeby connecting to Central Station (15min), Dam square (10min), Leidseplein (7 min), Rembrandtplein (8 min), Jordaan (20min) and Red light district (10 min).
Parking is expensive in Amsterdam and your car is of little use in the inner city. There is relatively cheap indoor municipal parking (approx 8 EUR per 24 hours, max 96 hours) with camera surveillance at several locations in the outskirts of Amsterdam. Search "Park and Ride Amsterdam" on the internet for more information.
