About the place
Welcome to this quiet mountaintop getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains with magnificent views overlooking the Shenandoah Valley!
Relax in the hot tub as you gaze out over the Shenandoah River glistening in the sunset, the Massanutten Range and the Alleghenies in the distance.
Get away to an alternate reality of stress-free country living.
(And at an elevation of 1,414 feet it’s always 10-15 degrees cooler than the city!)
Above the little village of Linden, just 5 miles east of Front Royal, the northern gateway to Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park.
In the rural Mountain View Section of Shenandoah Farms subdivision, which was planned back in the ’70’s as a vacation community, on a secluded arm of Blue Mountain, now surrounded on three sides by the 1200 acre Blue Ridge Reserve conservation wilderness. And the eastern slope of Blue Mountain is the 4,000 acre G Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area.
The most idyllic view on aptly named High Top Rd!
Your experience here will be a bit more personal than you’re perhaps accustomed to. We are a hands-on operation – We don’t use any cleaning or laundry or management service – we do it all ourselves. And we live close by if you need anything. So it may feel like a more accommodating experience than your typical vacation rental.
Enjoy a quiet country setting (no sidewalks or streetlights here!) with wildlife wandering about
We welcome well behaved dogs. And there is a fenced area for them to enjoy as well.
You should note however that there is a county-wide leash law.
(Rates already include 7.3% taxes.)

~ No smoking inside. If you smoke outside, do not litter yard & drive with butts – use ashtrays.
• Bed linens
~ Leave out any extra pillows or blankets used so we’ll know to launder.
~ Please use only water based lubricants to avoid permanently staining colored bed linens.
~ DO NOT leave it outside as it will attract bears - contact us to pick up.
~ If you clean out ashes, DO NOT dump in the yard. Use the Ash Can.
• Septic system
~ Don’t pour grease down the drain – use the container provided.
Deck, Hot Tub & Outdoor Rules
• Hot Tub: No dogs in hot tub!
~ Options button displays Temperature soft button which displays Λ / V soft buttons to adjust the temperature (range is 80˚ to 104˚). From that options screen the Ace© Water Care button accesses settings which regulate the chemical balance. PLEASE DO NOT adjust any of these.
~ Jets button cycles through settings for 2 pumps with 2 force levels each.
~ Lights button cycles through underwater color options (from that underwater lighting screen the Additional Lighting soft button controls the above-water lighting options.)
~ Options button doesn’t control anything of interest to you.
~ Memory button will return everything to the last used settings before the tub was shut down.
~ 7 types of jets are controlled for on/off & air mixture by dials on the tub walls.
~ the smaller jets can be strategically aimed by repositioning the center tube in each.
~ the larger jets are automatically oscillating - (They can be completely closed by turning the outer ring of each counterclockwise, but DO NOT close more than 4 at a time or you'll burn out the motor).
~ excessive foaming is caused by residual laundry soap in folks swimsuits. De-foaming agents are incompatible with the Salt System. This is why we asked you to run your swimsuits through an extra rinse cycle.
Please close cover when not in use, & snap in 2 front latches if high winds are forecast.
• Glassware: Please use only plasticware on the deck or around the hot tub (in the labeled kitchen cupboard).
~ (broken glass and barefoot tubbers are a bad combo).
• Seat cushions: Please put the seat cushions away in the chest during inclement weather.
~ but only if they’re dry - If they’re wet, leave them out.
• Litter: Please DO NOT throw ANYTHING off the deck. And kindly pickup after your dog.
~ Half-burnt logs can start forest fires, and if it’s edible it’ll attract bears & varmints. And the yard is NOT your ashtray!
• Fire cauldron: Outdoor fires are illegal prior to 4 PM, & not safe in wind. (the timing regulation is a temperature inversion / pollution consideration.)
~ please don’t build bonfires – use the screen cover.
~ if you can’t wait for the fire to die out, please DO NOT pour water on it! Cover it with the Weber grill cover.
~ if you empty ashes from the cauldron or the Weber, DO NOT dump them in the yard. Use the Ash Can.
~ the hose is across the driveway from the stairs – 911 works up here but the fire engine is 20 minutes away.
• Flora: Please respect Mother Nature and the plantings in the yard.
~ “kids will be kids” and unsupervised children can be very destructive.
~ every “weed” on the mountain actually blooms at some point, so please safeguard them for future guests to enjoy.
• Bug spray: is in a rack by each outside door.
~ We have mosquitoes & chiggers day & night year round. (you can’t see or hear chiggers & the itch lasts a week.)
• Hiking: Below the cabin is wilderness area – a mixture of undeveloped private lots, & the 1200 acre privately owned Blue Ridge Reserve. You’re welcome to hike through it, following the wilderness code: leave only footprints. There are no marked trails – only old logging roads. There’s a hint of a stream about 1,000 ft down the hill. As-the-crow-flies, the Shenandoah River is less than 2 miles, but that’s an adventure for experienced backwoods hikers only.
We and future guests will greatly appreciate your attention to these points.
Enjoy your stay and contact us if you need anything. We’re only minutes away.
