ABOUT THE SPACE
Welcome to The Green Dragon Guest House! The view and immediate proximity to Crown State Beach make this space truly special. Your bedroom has a view of the Bay, and the large windows off the living room look out at a view that spans the Central Bay Area, from Silicon Valley on up to downtown San Francisco and the Bay Bridge. You are immediately across the street from a nearly mile long state beach, where sunsets are stunning! Your bed is also super comfortable, according to other guests who have stayed here. You have your own room, and the rest of the apartment is shared space, with either your host and/or other guests staying here (there can be up to 5 people in total in the apartment). A stay at the Green Dragon Guest House includes breakfast "essentials" such as coffee, whole milk, bread, jam, butter and eggs, provided for your use (and your own cooking).
GUEST ACCESS
Your room is tastefully furnished with a king sized bed, window with a view from the bed of the bay and beach, BOSE mp3 stereo system, a small desk (with a nice view of the bay!), a closet space and two dresser drawers to store clothes. Guests have their own sink, and share the rest of the bathroom with your host or other guests (see "Bay Views Across From The Beach"). You have full access to the fully stocked kitchen (excepting breakfast essentials, you provide your own groceries, of course. By stocked I mean pots, pans, dishes, utensils, spices, condiments, oils, etc.), plus the living and dining room spaces that offer a 54" flatscreen with TiVO DVR and HBO, leather couch, and dining for up to six around the table.
Soap and shampoo provided. I do not make your bed each day, as this is not a hotel. I keep the apartment clean and neat, and the apartment is thoroughly cleaned professionally once every two weeks. There is an MP3 hookup for playing music on the living room stereo, and our wireless internet is, as one guest put it, "insanely fast". Send me a message if you have any other questions. A guidebook of local attractions, restaurants and amenities (wash n fold, etc) is available upon your arrival.

The neighborhood is relatively quiet and suburban. The apartment overlooks the beach. During the day the street is fairly busy, but it is no freeway by any means. We are an easy 15 minute/one-half mile walk and/or short drive to the nearest mall which includes a 24-hour Safeway, a Trader Joe's open from 8am to 9pm, and many restaurants (sushi, chinese, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Five Guys Burgers, MOD Pizza, Applebee's, and a fantastic rustic Italian place called Trabocco for special occasions). Though the street outside does have modest traffic on it during the day, at night it quiets down, making it sometimes difficult to remember that Oakland is only about 7 minutes away.

The hosts took the time to best showcase their accommodation. Their home is now ready for your stay and they look forward to welcoming you as their first misterb&b guest!Sharing = caring. This is The Green Dragon Guest House, it is not a hotel. As such, though you do not need to do so do be aware that I greatly prefer having some degree of interaction with my guests whenever possible, and prefer that you consider that it is as if you are staying as a guest in the home of a kind and caring friend, one who seeks at least a modicum of care in return while you are here. In addition, there are a few minor things I ask all guests to do that are not expected of most hotel guests (see below).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Checkout is at 10am on the last day of your stay, in nearly all cases a late checkout of an hour or more is possible, but guests should ask for it well in advance (24 hours or more is both preferred and more likely to be granted).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please take shoes off at the front entry hall, and use the location board to indicated when you are IN or OUT. You only need to use the doorknob to lock the front door when you leave, the deadbolt is unnecessary -- the RING security system is sufficient to ward off any potential thieves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please recycle and/or compost when possible, and notify your host if you notice that trash or recycling bins are full. Recycling is located directly under the right sink. Trash is located in the cabinet the right of the sink. Compost is on the kitchen counter to the left of the sink.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Green Dragon Guest House offers a simple breakfast for our guests, including toast, eggs, butter, jam, cream, coffee and/or tea. Guests make this breakfast themselves, directions are found on a (removable) magnetic clip on the refrigerator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and dining room. Please clean up any messes (say, from cooking a meal) promptly, and clean up the living room and dining room spaces immediately after use so that your host and other guests can enjoy them equally. Place used dishes (after thorough scraping or light rinsing) in the dishwasher and run the dishwasher if it is nearly full. Dishwasher soap is found in the narrow cabinet next to the dishwasher. If you hand wash, please put away your dishes after they are dry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quiet Hours (no loud noise, music in rooms and/or using of noisy appliances in the kitchen) are from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am. No parties or events, please.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No smoking of tobacco or cannabis in the apartment or elsewhere in the building; smoking is ok on the path across the street (preferred) or at least 20 ft (7m) away from the buildings, along the sidewalk next to the building. This household is cannabis friendly (and cannabis is legal in California).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry, but there is no guest use of the building swimming pool or laundry facilities, or the Guest House's workout equipment. There are laundry facilities about 2/3 mile (1.2 km) down the street.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am willing to print boarding passes or other things for my guests, when I am available to do so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EASY WATER REFILLS: EASY WATER REFILLS: The kitchen tap offers filtered water (push the button above faucet toward the left using your thumb and leveraging the push in with the rest of your hand). Guests are asked to (1) refill the kitchen's water filter's reservoir if they use it AND the hot water kettle with each use, so that all guests can continue to enjoy these without interruption (gently lift the top front lid on the water filter; use the glass pitcher to refill with water from the tap). And, (2 -- ONLY WHEN YOUR HOST WILL BE AWAY) Every 2-3 days the water fountain by the front door evaporates to the point of needing to be refilled. You can tell when it begins to make louder noises. There is a (usually full) water pitcher located underneath the fountain that you can use to refill it, just pour the water gently onto the rocks until you see the water level emerge from below, then the fountain is full again for another 2-3 days. If you would prefer not to do this easy task, there is a switch near the fountain you can use to turn it off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though normally your host is on top of such matters, do let your host know if you notice we are running low on anything such as toilet paper, paper towels, or soap.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are expected to leave the apartment in a tidy condition when you depart including taking all food you brought along with you. Thank you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Green Dragon Guest House does not offer special child-safety features or amenities; all children should be supervised by an adult at all times.
Your host, Markus Thorndike, is a Master Hand Analyst and --- when he is in residence -- offers one 30-minute life purpose hand reading complimentary to each set of guests staying at The Green Dragon Guest House, included as a part of their stay (fully detailed 90-minute Life Review readings are also available for a fee). Guests must inform Markus of their interest in receiving a hand reading well in advance (usually at least a day ahead) and an appointment time must be set. This amenity is subject to Markus' availability and schedule. The best hours for a reading from Markus are typically between Noon and 6pm, and sometimes at 8:30pm, most days. Advance appointments set two or more days ahead can usually give Markus the time to rearrange his schedule to allow time for a reading at 9:00 am.
