Our guest bedroom is a quiet and cozy second floor walk-up in a typical prewar NY Apartment building. Up one flight of stairs from the street door, you'll find your private entrance to the room, in the rear of the apartment. A large open park next door and windows in every room keep the apartment well lit throughout. The room is also well insulated from street noise at night. Our bedroom is on the street-side of the apartment, and a shared kitchen and bathroom are in between the two bedrooms. We have our own entrance, so privacy (and distance) is no problem.
Regarding COVID-19, we have committed to the enhanced cleaning and safety protocols set out by Misterb&b. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or concerns - we're happy to have a conversation about comfort levels so you feel safe and at ease.
When requesting a reservation, kindly tell us as much as you can about yourself, your trip, and an idea of your routine while you're here, especially if you don't have this info in your profile or if you have not yet received any reviews.
If you're considering a trip to New York, but not sure what you'll be able to do while here, feel free to ask us. Though the usual attractions are closed for the time being (theater, museums, tourist sites, etc) the city is beautiful and vibrant this time of year. It's a great time to be in New York just to wander around its streets and experience the city, visit parks and farmers markets, have a cocktail on the street and socialize, at a safe distance. Restaurants are also open for outdoor dining and have taken over a lane of traffic for safely distanced tables, creating a lively scene everywhere you go. Generally you can see full respect for the rules and guidelines surrounding COVID everywhere you go (mask wearing, respectful of distance, cleanliness encouraged, etc.).
We're offering 30% off the nightly rate for the rest of the fall months (already reflected on our calendar; select dates to see the total amount for a visit).
Hope to hear from you soon!

First and foremost, please feel comfortable and at home during your stay!
Help yourself to coffee and tea. We usually rise early and make a large pot of coffee. We also provide cream and sugar/sweetener, bread or english muffins for toasting with butter and homemade jam. As for other groceries, help yourself to anything in the fridge or pantry, and feel free to store any of your own groceries in the refrigerator or cupboards wherever you like.
The kitchen and bathroom are shared areas. Please don't worry at all about disturbing us when accessing the bathroom at any time!
Note that the listing is "Clothing Optional", which simply means feel free to wear as much or as little as you like. We're dedicated Nudists at the beach in summer, but around the house, we just wear (or don't wear) whatever's comfortable.
Guaranteed check-in time is 3pm (including dropping off luggage), but we can usually be flexible if your arrival time is provided with plenty of notice and we don't have a guest departing the same day. We will provide you with a set of keys during your stay (please do not duplicate or lose them). If we're unable to be at home for your check-in, we may need to provide you with a key another way.
- Please do not invite guests to the apartment (out of respect to our neighbors, we have agreed to host only one guest at a time, especially during this time of COVID)
- Keep noise to a minimum at all times (including music, radio, internet streaming, etc.)
- Keep room and common areas tidy in general and leave room in reasonably clean condition. A thorough cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces for the room and common areas will be completed before your stay, per Misterb&b guidelines, but if you'd like to further disinfect surfaces periodically, we're happy to provide access to cleaning products.
- Kindly turn off lights and electronics when leaving the apartment.
- Always lock the deadbolt from outside before leaving the building and keep windows locked whenever not in use. Do not leave the apartment without keys as the door latch will lock behind you (the deadbolt is for added security)
- Regarding the window AC during the summer months, please power off when leaving the apartment. On extra hot days, feel free to set the timer delay to go on an hour or so in advance of your return (June - September)
- Regarding the space heater during winter, feel free to use it as much as you like to supplement the heat coming from the radiator as needed. Generally the radiator keeps the room very warm, with occasional chilly moments on the coldest days of the year. Just be sure to turn off the space heater when leaving the apartment (November - May)
Let us know if there's anything we can provide or help with during your stay!

BARS: During COVID-19, rules regarding drinking on the streets have been temporarily lifted, allowing bars and restaurants to serve "to go" cocktails, and for people to socialize on the street with social distance. There are at least a dozen gay bars in the neighborhood, each a little different. Feel free to ask us about them. These are a few of our favorites:
Atlas Social Club
9th Avenue Saloon
The Eagle (leather bar with an open air roof garden)
The Boiler Room
REGULAR GAY PRIVATE PARTIES:
(********* parties for more info, or feel free to ask us! Most aren't happening during COVID, but a few have started up again)
RESTAURANTS: Restaurants have recently been allowed to reopen to outdoor dining, with distancing, after previously only being able to sell "to go" cocktails. To meet this need, restaurants have been given the right to use the street space in front of their establishments for well spaced table seating. As you walk down many streets, there's now a lively dining scene, even if at a safe distance. Patrons must wear masks when not seated. Some of our favorites restaurants in the neighborhood include:
Tim Ho Wan (dim sum)
SUBWAY: The apartment is within one or two blocks from ACE, NRQW, 1, 9, and other Times Square trains. From there you can get just about anywhere in the city.
TAXIS: In New York, you can generally step out onto any street at any time of day and hail a cab. You will almost always find a cab right away on our street. Between the hours of 4pm and 6pm it can sometimes be more challenging to find a taxi in all parts of the city, as this is the time when many taxis go off duty for the day. All taxis take credit cards as well as cash.
For a taxi to/from JFK, you'll pay a flat rate of $52 (plus tolls and tip, probably closer to $65-70 total). Taxis to/from LaGuardia and Newark are regular metered fares. Total for LaGuardia will be around $45. Total for Newark will be around $90.
UBER: A safe and convenient option if you cannot find a taxi, and usually a fair price.
CITI BIKE: Several bike share docks are located a few steps away. You can pay per ride, per day, or per week at a computer kiosk at each dock.
AIRPORTS/TRAINS/BUSES: Transportation to and from JFK is by the "Air Train" - a kind of shuttle, which connects to various subway lines (the "E" train 50th Street stop is one block from our apartment). LaGuardia and Newark Airports can be reached by similar means. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is just a short walk away, and Grand Central and Penn Stations are a brief subway ride to get to.
