Cannaregio is the entrance gate to Venice for many visitors, when they arrive via Piazzale Roma or by train. The district covers a large area above Canal Grande, from the Santa Lucia train station to the Rio dei Mendicarti (next to the Ospedale).

CITY TOURIST TAX
From August 24 2011, the Venice City Council introduced a City tax
Venice City Tax is used to fund tourism, maintenance of Venice's cultural heritage sites and the environment as well as public services.
This City tax is to be paid cash upon arrival by all guests and is applicable for stays up to a maximum of 5 consecutive nights.
As a Tourist apartment in Venice, the City tax levies applicable for stays are:
City Tax Fares (approved on 24th December 2018)
Fares from Jannuary 2019
Low Season (1 Jan - 31 Jan): € 2.80 per person per night (children 1.40 euro)
High Season (1 Feb - 31 Dec): € 4.00 per person per night (children: 2.00 euro)
Children 10 years and below are exempt.
City tax levies are subject to change without notice.
