Denver is the capital of Colorado, and is often affectionately referred to as the Mile High City. While this may initially come as a surprise, Denver is a very gay-friendly city, and it boasts the most populated LGBTQ scene in the Rockies. In fact, it is among the most gay-friendly cities in the USA.
The majority of gay life is concentrated around gayborhoods, Capitol Hill and Lower Downtown - or LoDo. While these are the main areas for LGBTQ culture, the entire city is very gay-friendly, and you’re guaranteed to feel welcome wherever you visit here. Just over one-hour by car, you will reach Colorado Springs, which also offers a relatively active gay scene.
Along with a lively LGBTQ culture, gay Denver is home to plenty of hipster neighborhoods, boutique shops, art galleries, and a host of micro-breweries. Over the past couple of years, gay Denver has become the center of craft brewing in the west, so much so that is often referred to as the Napa Valley for craft beer.
Denver’s PrideFest is the biggest gay celebration in the city, and it is held annually in June. Lasting for an entire week, PrideFest offers a host of parties, events, and of course an incredible pride parade. If you miss out on this, don’t despair. Colorado Springs Gay Pride is held a month after in July, and promises a similar amount of pride-related fun.
