Caen to become a gay friendly city

Caen to become a gay friendly city

Homosexual places are mainly located behind the Bassin St-Pierre, near the port of Caen, where there are already several gay establishments. These establishments are mainly found on the streets of Courtonne and Varignon.

For some time, an old district of the Faubourg de St-Etienne between the streets Caponière and rue de Bretagne near the Place de l'Ancienne, has also been equipped with gay friendly establishments.

Of course, the gay district of Caen is far from the big ones like the Marais and the gay village of Montreal.

The area near the harbor is home to some saunas and crusing bars. In the other part of the gay district, there are merchants who display their openness to the gay & lesbian community. This district is often more gay friendly than strictly gay or lesbian.

Caen is not a highly touristy place in France like Paris or Lyon. On the western side of France, cities like Nantes and Rennes also attract many LGBT tourists. Maybe one day the city of Caen will get the mass tourists to move to Caen.

Lately, Caen has revived its Gay Pride. In addition, a Maison Des Diversités L.G.B.T opened its doors in downtown Caen. An LGBT cinema event is also offered during the year.

Caen is on its way to becoming a gay friendly city.
