With a mild Pacific Northwest climate, diverse cultures, and exciting venues and gay events, Vancouver is one of Canada’s best LGBT travel destinations. Surrounded by stunning mountains and calming beaches, Vancouver offers a bustling urban environment with plenty of choices when it comes to gay nightlife, sightseeing and local excursions.
The heart of gay life in Vancouver is centered in Davie Village, a vibrant neighborhood marked by its rainbow crosswalks on Jim Deva Plaza. Because this queer hub is full of tasty restaurants, a handful of gay bars, stores and cafés, it’s the ideal place to center your gay Vancouver holiday.
Vancouver gay nightlife
The majority of gay nightlife in Vancouver is centered around Davie Street, the main drag of Davie Village. Here you have everything from energetic clubs perfect for dancing the night away to mellow sports pubs where you can catch your favorite game. About a 20 minute walk from Davie Village, Downtown also hosts a few options for gay nightlife.
Gay events in Vancouver
Pride is certainly Vancouver’s biggest gay event and takes place every year in early August. The multi-day event contains an epic parade followed by the Sunset Beach Festival, right on the water.
Every year in mid-June, Vancouver is taken over by the artist-led Queer Arts Festival which highlights all mediums from painting and sculpture to multimedia work, music, and beyond. The event tends to coincide with East Side Pride, a smaller, alternative Pride to August’s more mainstream celebration.
