Italy’s capital of fashion, Italy’s gayest city, and the home of the iconic Duomo - what’s not to love about gay Milan? The second most populous city in Italy, Milan is guaranteed to show you a good time. Spend your day wandering the city’s charming streets, before stopping for an Instagram shot of the famous Duomo - one of the world’s largest cathedrals. Close to the Duomo, you will also find Milan’s renowned Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a four-story double arcade which is Italy’s oldest active shopping mall. Stroll across the tesselated floor, and be sure to look up and admire the impressive iron and glass ceiling.

Along with its lavish architecture, gay Milan also attracts plenty of people from the LGBTQ community, thanks to its active queer scene. While Italy in the main is still reasonably traditional, the gay scene in Milan is kept afloat thanks to the city’s very open and liberal attitude towards the LGBTQ community. Most gay life is concentrated in the Porta Venezia neighborhood, where you’ll find plenty of gay restaurants and bars. Visit in summer, and you’ll also experience loads of al-fresco drinking, particularly on the district’s main street, Via Lecco.

Dance queens looking to take to the floor on a Friday night need to venture to La Boum, arguably one of Milan’s best gay clubs. You can expect a blend of pop anthems alongside Italian hits here. Alternatively, head to Blanco if you are looking for something a little less mainstream. Before you visit gay Milan, however, be sure to pack your best shirt. Milan is Italy’s capital of fashion after all, and home to the headquarters of top fashion brands including Gucci, Prada, and Versacé. In Milan as in several other big cities of Italy, a membership card is recommended to be able to enter bars, saunas or clubs gays of the city. It's called the Arcigay UNO club card, and is roughly 7 euros.
