Berlin Gay Pride, commonly referred to as Berlin CSD, is one of Europe's biggest gay prides, with gay parties and events taking place all over the creative capital. The first Berlin Pride or Christopher Street Day (CSD) Berlin was celebrated back in 1979. Nowadays, roughly 500,000 people celebrate Gay Pride Berlin, filling the city streets with plenty of revelry! After all, Berlin is one of Europe's premier gay and party destinations, so could we have expected any less?
For Berlin Gay Pride 2019, the main parade will take place on July 27. The demonstration kicks off at 12pm at Kurfürstendamm and ends at 2pm at Brandenburger Tor. Following the parade, you can look forward to lively Pride Village, which will kick off on centrally-located Strasse des 17. Juni, from 2pm until midnight. Expect live performers, DJs, and of course loads of new people to meet. To honor 50 years since Stonewall, the Soul of Stonewall Award ceremony will also be presented on the main stage.
There’s also an alternative Berlin CSD in the Kreuzberg neighborhood of the city, if you want something less mainstream; think dark club nights and queer film screenings. As a warm-up to Berlin CSD 2019, the local community holds a Lesbian and Gay City Festival in Schöneberg the weekend before. So whether you're a die-hard party animal, or you appreciate queer-related cultural and political events, Pride Week 2019 in Berlin has something for everyone. See you there!
