Mexico City is the largest metropolitan area in North America and the gay community here has a scale and a complexity that reflects that: the Zona Rosa neighbourhood has been the traditional centre of gay life in the capital since the 1970s, but the scene has expanded across multiple colonias - Condesa, Roma, Polanco - in ways that reflect the city's growth and the changing preferences of a community large enough to sustain multiple different environments simultaneously. Mexico City legalised same-sex marriage in 2009, becoming the first jurisdiction in Latin America to do so, and that legal framework has made it a destination for same-sex couples from across Mexico and the region. Mexico City Pride in June is among the largest in Latin America, drawing millions of participants. The altitude at 2,240 metres takes adjustment. The food - tacos al pastor, pozole, the mole negro at a proper fondita - is as extraordinary as the reputation. The Lucha Libre, the Frida Kahlo museum, the Palacio de Bellas Artes: the city is endlessly interesting. For LGBTQ+ verified accommodation, misterb&b Mexico City is the right starting point. đłïžâđ The Zona Rosa has been changing in character over the past decade - some of the traditional gay bars have closed as rents have risen - but the neighbourhood remains the symbolic centre of gay Mexico City and the march route for Pride. The Condesa and Roma colonias, with their art deco buildings and tree-lined streets, have developed the most interesting LGBTQ+ friendly bar and restaurant culture in the city. The Museo Soumaya and the Museo Tamayo provide world-class cultural experiences. The Metro system - efficient and cheap - makes the entire metropolitan area navigable from any base. "The largest gay activity is in Reforma and Zona Rosa, but the gay-friendly atmosphere extends to Condesa and Roma. He didn't rule out starting the weekend with breakfast at Cardenal and then going to MUNAL or Bellas Artes, eating at Samos, going to a bar in Zona Rosa and ending relaxed at Sodome."
