Legay Choc is the beloved gay bakery of the Marais, an artisanal boulangerie-patisserie whose owners, the Legay family, didn't have to invent the perfect pun; that's genuinely their name. Opened in 2001 in the heart of gay Paris and, since being priced out by Marais gentrification in 2020, now a little further north on rue Rambuteau, it's famous for its cheeky X-rated specialties: the phallic "baguette magique," "zizichoc" chocolates, "bistouquette" meringues and penis-shaped sablé cookies (start by tearing off the "balls" and dunking them in hot chocolate). But the fun isn't the whole story; the croissants, pastries, quiches and generous lunch sandwiches are genuinely excellent and affordable, which is why the queues form and locals keep coming back. A must-stop, and a must-selfie, in the gay Marais, straight or not.
