Bar Central sums itself up better than anyone: "we used to be the gayest ungay gay bar in town; nowadays you call it queer." A stylish, laid-back little cocktail lounge in the heart of Frankfurt's gay quarter around the Alte Gasse "Bermuda Triangle," it's an established institution of the local LGBTQ+ scene, with characterful black walls, a red floor, brightly lit liquor shelves and a central bar seating around 15 that forms the sociable core of the room. Mostly gay but genuinely mixed and all-welcome, it draws a cool, arty crowd of regulars, newcomers, students and cute guys and their lesbian friends, for excellent, well-priced cocktails (the Caipirinha and Monkey Gin get shout-outs), a diverse soundtrack and a warm, chatty atmosphere where solo visitors quickly find company. There's outdoor seating in summer, jazz on Sundays, and ladies' nights on Thursdays. A favorite first stop on a Frankfurt night out.
