Lo de Carmen

Lo de Carmen is one of Barcelona's most distinctive queer bars, a self-consciously activist, drag-centered space on Avinguda del Paral·lel between Sant Antoni and Poble-sec, just outside the main Gaixample circuit. Explicitly built around the drag, trans and non-binary communities, it wears its politics and its heart on its sleeve, and it's an Instagrammer's dream: dramatic red neon, walls papered with vintage posters, plush retro seating and much-photographed gender-neutral bathrooms. The nights run on live drag shows, karaoke and DJ sets spanning pop to reggaeton, with well-made cocktails and a genuinely warm, inclusive, party-ready crowd (cis gay men included, though the identity is broader). A refreshing, alternative counterpoint to the polished Gaixample bars, it's a real community hub for anyone after something more authentic and activist.
