Candy Darling

Candy Darling is one of Barcelona's most distinctive queer bars, an indie, art-driven space just steps from Plaça de la Universitat, named after the transgender Warhol superstar and built on queer activism as much as nightlife. There's no flashy sign, just a discreet pink triangle nodding to the clandestine clubs of the past, leading into a spacious, kitsch-glam interior of murals, rotating queer art, plush sofas and a pocket-sized dance floor, the "Wild Room." The programming is anything-goes: drag, burlesque, circus, live music, poetry, bingo, markets and talks, set to a genuinely good soundtrack of house and alternative pop that skips the usual circuit fodder. Serving quirky cocktails and its signature "Bikini Darling" toasties (the Pastrami Queer, the Naturist, the Versatile), it draws a younger, mixed, all-identities crowd and consciously breaks from the male-dominated energy of the Gaixample. Inclusive, creative, and affordable, it's a safe space where the only rule is to have a damn good time.
