Black & White is a Chueca legend, a gay club on Calle de la Libertad that has been part of Madrid's nightlife since the 1980s and is often cited as the city's oldest continuously operating gay bar. It spans two floors and three bars: the ground-floor bar is the main gathering spot; there's a dance floor downstairs; and upstairs, there's a stage for drag shows, go-go dancers, and strippers. Madrid drag stars (La Plexy among them) have long performed here, and signature events such as the "Hoscars" and the summer "El chicho del verano" contest keep the calendar lively. The music mixes pop, techno-trance, and English-language gay anthems, and the crowd is a mix of locals and visitors who come after midnight. It stays open until about 6:00 am on weekends, so it's a natural last stop on a Chueca night.
