Gipsy

Gipsy is an iconic LGBTQ+ nightclub located at 4605 Paradise Road in Las Vegas, in the city’s historic gay nightlife district known as the Fruit Loop. Just a short drive from the Strip and almost directly opposite Piranha Nightclub, it offers a flamboyant alternative to the enormous casino clubs. The setting is polished, the entertainment is proudly queer and the atmosphere is designed for anyone who believes a Las Vegas night deserves more drag, more dancing and considerably more sparkle.

There is an important chapter of its history to understand. The original Gipsy no longer exists in its former physical form. After decades of openings, closures and changes of ownership, the old building was demolished. A completely reconstructed Gipsy opened at the same address in November 2023, reviving the identity of one of Nevada’s most significant LGBTQ+ venues while updating it for a new generation. Visitors are therefore entering a modern incarnation of a historic name rather than a club that has operated continuously since the 1980s.

Gipsy’s roots reach back to 1981, when LGBTQ+ activist and nightlife pioneer Marge Jacques opened the venue. Its predecessor, Le Café, had been among the first places in Las Vegas where same-sex couples could dance openly. Gipsy subsequently became a refuge for the city’s queer “show kids”: performers, entertainers and nightlife workers who did not always feel welcome elsewhere. Liberace, Siegfried and Roy, Frank Marino and famous allies including Cher and Bette Midler were associated with its glamorous orbit. The club also played a community role, notably hosting an early major AIDS fundraiser in Nevada.

The reborn venue respects that theatrical heritage. Its contemporary interior combines purple tones, floral details, metallic palm trees, multiple bars and a performance area equipped for drag shows, cabaret and nightclub productions. A large opening connects part of the club with its patio, helping the space move between seated entertainment and full dance-floor energy. This is more sophisticated than an old-fashioned neighborhood dive, but it remains unmistakably connected to Las Vegas queer culture.

Programming is central to the experience and can change substantially from one night to another. Depending on the current calendar, guests may find drag performances, RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing parties, themed dance nights, karaoke, cabaret productions, guest performers and other community events. Some occasions begin with a structured show before becoming a late-night party. Gipsy has also experimented with brunch entertainment and food service, including sushi, although menus and service times should be confirmed before visiting rather than assumed.

The crowd is LGBTQ+ at its core but not exclusively male. Expect gay men alongside lesbians, trans and non-binary guests, drag fans, local performers, tourists and queer-friendly friends. Certain nights may attract a younger dance crowd, while cabaret or viewing events can bring together a wider range of ages. Check the theme before choosing your evening: the program will influence both the audience and the mood far more than a standard weekly schedule.

Admission prices, opening times and ticket requirements vary according to the event. Gipsy is a 21-and-over venue, and a valid government-issued photo ID is required. Dress can range from smart casual to delightfully excessive. This is Las Vegas, so subtlety is permitted but never compulsory. Rideshare is generally the easiest way to arrive, especially when drinking, and Gipsy can easily be combined with Piranha and other nearby queer venues.

Gipsy is worth visiting not only as a nightclub but as a living piece of LGBTQ+ Las Vegas history. Come for the drag, dancing and polished production, then stay for the feeling that several generations of queer show kids are still represented beneath the lights.
