Gay Local Tips in Vancouver

Party in diverCity!

Bruno and Dean are a dynamic couple living in Vancouver. They love hosting through misterb&b and showing the gay community how to enjoy the diverse gay scene Vancouver offers. Check out Bruno's tips to explore this cool Canadian city and experience your pride.

How gay-friendly is Vancouver? What’s life like there?

Vancouver is an incredibly friendly city to all members of our expansive community. Gay life in Vancouver doesn’t just fit into one category: if you have a desire to go out any night of the week, there will likely be a drag show, gay bingo, charity event or something to attend.

If you're more outdoorsy, there are great hikes and beaches in the summer, or snowboarding and skiing in the winter. Vancouver is chill; you will find people interested in doing a wide variety of things.

The best gay events that take place in Vancouver?

Vancouver has a number of drag nights; however Sanctuary at 1181 is one of the best. On Sundays, they have a show called Sanctuary, hosted by a very famous queen in town called Alma B!tch. If you love drag shows and comedy, this is your spot, I wouldn’t miss it for anything. Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar also happens every year and has great queens compete.

While it isn’t an event, Wreck Beach is an amazing place to spend the summer. Hidden away by the cliffs by the University of British Columbia, it's a clothing-optional beach open to all. Any hot summer day will see people strip down and enjoy much of the beauty Vancouver has to offer.

We have 48 hours Vancouver: what can’t we miss?

You can’t miss the amazing old part of town, known as Gastown. There are great restaurants and a lot to be seen. The gay village is also a good treat if you like nightlife. Vancouver is full of attractions. From ski resorts to stand-up comedy. It really depends on your individual taste.

What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite to eat?

There’s no such a thing as a gay restaurant here – everywhere in Vancouver is gay-friendly. However, the best place to go out for lunch would be in Yaletown. There’s a place called Cactus Club and they have an amazing menu, going from appetizers, to main courses, and burgers. A favorite place for dinner would be any sushi restaurant: Vancouver is well known for its Japanese cuisine.

A place for brunch on weekends?

The Elbow Room is very famous for its amazing brunch and also for being an unapologetic type of restaurant, where they make fun of their customers in a very funny and healthy way. The Distillery is a famous spot, where they serve brunch from 11:00am until 16:00pm, and everything on the menu is only $10.

Best gay place and day for a cheap beer or happy hour?

The PumpJack is the cheapest place for happy hour over the weekends. The staff are friendly and it's a safe place for those who like to wear leather or have any sort of clothing fetish.

Best gay clubs for dancing?

We have five gay clubs in Vancouver gay village. There's Numbers; they have karaoke every night and a pool table. It’s a good place for laidback gays. The PumpJack is the bear bar. There's an older crowd during the day, but a mixed crowd at night. They have a huge dance floor and pool table.

Then there's The Junction. They have drag shows every Friday and Saturday and it's mainly a younger crowd. 1181 is more of a lounge. The space is small but cozy. They have the hottest bartenders in town and the best cocktails too. Lastly, there's XY, the most beautiful bar in town. They host comedy shows, drag shows, and karaoke, and you'll also find amazing staff and delicious cocktails.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit?

Vancouver has lots of great little restaurants. Try Tacofino for some great BC tacos, or Ki Isu for some black rice sushi.

Any beaches, parks or best other places to chill-out?

Wreck Beach is our best beach. It's clothing optional, with a great crowd, awesome vendors, comfy sand and the best vibes. Stanley Park is often rated at the top of any city parks list. The sea wall is awesome for your morning run or renting a bike.

Where you can we get the best view of Vancouver?

Our patio! We have an amazing view of our part of the city, with a sliver of ocean, a lot of mountain, lots of towers, and the stadium. Apart from that, taking the gondola up to the top of Grouse Mountain will afford you one of the most amazing views of the entire city. ●
