How gay-friendly is your city? What’s gay life like there?

Hong Kong is a great place to be true to yourself! Lesbians have been widely accepted in society and culture. However, men still face some challenges and pressures like continuing the family lineage. This means they tend to be trapped in the closet, especially with their family and employers. Some of them explore their gay sides, but they are still restricted by family and financial expectations. You might say there's still some work to be done, but all in all Hong Kong is a very open-minded city. 

What are the best gay events that take place in your city each year?

It's constantly evolving as a result of the ever-changing economy and politics. There is a lively underground gay life, and your host will certainly be able to reference some cool local gay venues and online resources to help you enjoy your time in the Central District.

We only have 48 hours in your city. What can’t we miss?

There’s a lot going on, we’ll have to narrow it down to what you’re looking for exactly - visit the Victoria Peak, Man Mo Temple, the Hong Kong Museum of History or hop on the Peak Tram.

What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?

There are no “gay-only places” per se. Respect is reciprocated out here so as long as you do that, you’ll be just fine. Some great places are Kau Kee Restaurant, Chi Lin Vegetarian, Rōnin in Soho. Again they're not gay-owned or gay-only, but they're certainly places where you can treat yourself and enjoy traditional food in a comfortable environment. 

Best gay place and day for a cheap beer or happy hour?

Wherever you'll be in the Central District, you'll find the perfect spot to have a blast! Central is the life of the party: Pettycoat Lane, Time Bar, and FLM are the most popular venues. There you'll be able to mingle with gay locals and tourists as well.

What are the best alternative gay bars and clubs where you live?

I live right in the middle of Central District and believe me, it never gets old here: there’s always something new around the corner, and so many different places to choose from. 

Any beaches, parks or best other places to chill out?

Repulse Bay, because there’s less crowds so it tends to be much quieter out there. The sand is fine, the water and general area are clean, and there are shopping malls close by. Tai Long Wan is an escape from the bustling city, and the perfect location for a hike!
