Visit Te Papa, our national museum, then ride the historic cable car up to the botanical gardens; from here you can appreciate spectacular views of the city and harbour. Walk around the waterfront to the Parliament buildings, and take a free tour inside. Wellington is also a great place for bars and cozy cafés, so be sure to devote a good part of your trip to exploring these.
