Mary's Poppin is Adelaide's headline queer venue, a queer-owned bar and nightclub that has been the city's go-to LGBTQ+ party spot since opening in April 2016. Climb the stairs, and you'll find a neon-lit, over-the-top room of mirrored walls and ceilings, light-up go-go cages, a high-tech video disco bar, and a giant rainbow, spread over two levels after a downstairs expansion. The DJ booth is a converted baby grand piano, and the music runs from retro bangers to queer anthems and modern hits. Drag shows are the main event, with local queens and visiting Drag Race stars on stage every weekend, alongside a playful cocktail menu. It's a safe space for Adelaide's queer community that welcomes everyone, as long as you're kind and friendly, and it's reliably packed after 10:00 pm, so arrive early.
