La Cueva

La Cueva is the oldest gay bar and nightclub in Rio de Janeiro, open since 1964 and often called the oldest in Latin America, tucked into a basement in Copacabana, hence "The Cave," with an underwater-cavern interior that makes it genuinely unique. A longtime haven for the city's bear and mature community and their admirers, it spins a mix of Brazilian, retro-80s, and electronic beats until late, and really heats up on Fridays and Saturdays with parties like the Bear Power night. Small, characterful and centrally located in a safe, taxi-friendly stretch, it's a piece of living Rio gay history.
