Lellebel, self-described as the only tiny alternative indie grunge rock queer bar in Amsterdam, is a trans and queer women-owned and -operated institution just off Rembrandtplein, open since 1997. Founded by Hans Wijtenburg, one half of the legendary 1970s drag duo Josephine and Daphne, and now led by owner Tori Anneke, it's a home for many and a safe haven for everyone, small in size but overflowing with character and heart. The Amstel neighborhood's most diverse, inclusive drag venue, it hosts drag cabaret and queer comedy on the last two weekends of the month, ticketed Thursday queer comedy nights, and a beloved Sunday karaoke that regulars swear by. Warm, welcoming, and utterly unpretentious, walk in as a stranger and you'll likely leave with new friends — exactly the kind of magical, judgment-free corner every city needs.
