Nate is a colorful, instantly welcoming queer bar and restaurant on a picturesque corner where the Herengracht canal meets Utrechtsestraat, right by Rembrandtplein and Amsterdam's gay district. Named for its founder, tailor Nathaniel Gtensaye, it rose in 2025 from the ashes of the beloved neighborhood café Brug34, in a building with even deeper queer roots, having been a gay café in the 1960s. By day it's a relaxed spot for coffee, healthy brunch fare and canal views, shifting as the sun goes down into a cocktail lounge with great tunes and delicious drinks. Pop in for one, and you might end up staying all evening, or come back for a leisurely Sunday brunch; either way, expect a generous dose of community warmth and that open, at-home feeling that keeps regulars coming back.
