The Otherside is a beloved Amsterdam institution and the only named gay coffeeshop in the city, open since 1990 right on Reguliersdwarsstraat, the heart of Amsterdam's gay nightlife district, just around the corner from the world-famous floating Flower Market. Behind its dark wood, faux-stone decor, and warm chandeliers, it has a cozy, upmarket, living-room feel with a soulful, jazzy soundtrack—an easy-going contrast to the smokier dive-bar coffeeshops elsewhere in the city. Genuinely mixed (gay, straight, locals and tourists all mingle happily), it offers a well-priced menu of quality cannabis products and space cakes alongside teas and coffee, with friendly, open-minded staff and a resident cat, Tony, adding to the charm. A deliberately WiFi-free zone built for actually chilling out and chatting, it's a lovely, laid-back pit stop before heading out to explore the bars and clubs that line the rest of the street.
