Spijker Bar is Amsterdam's oldest gay dive bar, a cozy, unpretentious "brown café"-style spot on Kerkstraat that's been serving the community since 1978, back when this street was the beating heart of gay Amsterdam. Set in a 1904 building that once showed off luxury Dutch cars, it's kept its no-attitude, radically tolerant spirit ever since: a well-used pool table at the back (write your name on the board and wait your turn), vintage porn and cartoons flickering on the TVs, and a small smoking room and darkroom tucked upstairs.
