De Trut

De Trut is a true Amsterdam legend, a raw, unpolished, and unapologetically queer party held every Sunday night in the basement of a legalized former squat in Oud-West. Running since 1985 and staffed entirely by volunteers, it's as much an act of activism as a night out: every cent of profit goes to its own Trut Fund, which subsidizes LGBTQI+ projects around the world. The vibe is intentionally underground and down-to-earth, good music at a volume you can still talk over, cheap drinks served in paper cups, and a firm no-photos, no-phones policy that lets everyone actually let their guard down. It draws a genuinely diverse, mostly younger crowd of dykes, trans folks, queers, and anyone in between, and its popularity means the small space fills fast; get there before 11pm if you want in. Not a polished club, but a true community institution and one of the most authentic queer nights Amsterdam has to offer.
