Taboo is a modern, welcoming gay bar right on Reguliersdwarsstraat, Amsterdam's main gay street, popular with a genuinely wide mix of people—young and old, locals and tourists alike. Reopened in 2022 with a striking new interior, a stage for drag performances, an eye-catching church-window feature, and a cozy upstairs lounge with street views, it's a favorite hotspot for an after-work drink or a pre-clubbing cocktail. Two daily happy hours bookend the night (6 to 7pm, then again from 1 to 2am when other bars are closing), with free hot snacks on Fridays, a lively cocktail night with a live DJ on Wednesdays, and the beloved Sunday drag event "Drag Me to Heaven." Friendly staff is always happy to play your requested music video on the plasma screens, and there's a terrace and smoking lounge to round things out. Next door, sister bar Taboo Kantine serves up more cocktails, finger food, and desserts on a shared terrace, both a great addition to the strip's variety.
