Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile

-
3235 E Cesar Chavez St, 78702, Austin, United States

Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile brings a generous helping of Texas ranch life to East Austin, with enough style to keep things distinctly urban. Set at 3235 East Cesar Chavez Street, overlooking the Colorado River, this family-owned restaurant combines Southern comfort food, locally sourced ingredients and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Think rustic ranch house meets contemporary Austin—with a leafy patio, colorful interiors and a crowd that looks ready for both brunch and a spontaneous photo shoot.

The story begins with the Jacoby family’s ranching roots in Melvin, Texas. Their experience raising cattle is reflected in the restaurant’s ranch-to-table approach, particularly in dishes made with Jacoby Brand Beef. The kitchen celebrates familiar Texan and Southern flavors while giving them the polished treatment expected from one of East Austin’s most distinctive dining destinations. This is comfort food, certainly, but it has put on a clean shirt for dinner.

At supper, meat lovers are naturally well catered for. The menu evolves, but signature-style offerings may include chicken-fried steak, steak frites, burgers and carefully prepared cuts of beef. Southern-inspired sides and seasonal vegetables complete the picture, while lighter dishes ensure that dinner does not necessarily have to end with you being rolled gently back to your hotel. Ingredients and individual preparations can change, so consulting the current menu is advisable.

Weekend brunch is another excellent reason to visit. Served on Saturdays and Sundays, it attracts groups of friends, couples and Austin locals who take their late-morning rituals seriously. Expect a comforting mix of savory breakfast plates, indulgent specialties and cocktails designed to remind you that orange juice becomes much more interesting with the right additions. The patio is particularly appealing when the Texas weather cooperates.

Drinks are an important part of the experience. The bar serves cocktails, wine and beer, providing everything required for a casual aperitif or a leisurely dinner. Jacoby’s also promotes changing specials, including discounted dishes or drinks on selected evenings. Check the restaurant’s current announcements before visiting, as promotions may change faster than your commitment to having “just one cocktail.”

The attached mercantile adds another dimension. Its selection of homewares, gifts and locally minded objects reflects the restaurant’s playful, carefully designed identity. Even if you arrive only for dinner, you may leave with a decorative item you had absolutely no intention of buying. That is retail therapy, Texas-style.

Jacoby’s was opened by Adam Jacoby and Kris Swift, a gay couple whose hospitality and creative vision helped make the restaurant a natural fit for Austin’s LGBTQ+ community. It is not a gay bar or an exclusively queer venue, but it is genuinely welcoming and regularly draws a diverse crowd. For gay travelers, it offers an inclusive setting without needing to turn inclusivity into a marketing performance.

Choose Jacoby’s for a romantic dinner, a lively gay brunch with friends or a stylish break from downtown. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend brunch and popular dinner periods. Current published hours cover supper from Wednesday through Saturday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday, but always check before traveling. Come hungry, request the patio if the weather behaves and prepare to discover that ranch-to-table dining can be both hearty and rather handsome.
