Oakland’s LGBTQ+ nightlife punches above its size. Most of it is clustered around Uptown, Old Oakland, and Telegraph Avenue, so bar-hopping is easy, and you won’t burn the night getting from place to place. The range is real — from a historic gay bar that’s been around since the 1930s to newer spots built around DJs, drag, Latinx party nights, and live performances.
White Horse Bar on Telegraph Ave is widely considered the oldest operating gay bar in the U.S., and it still feels like a true neighborhood bar — not a relic. Strong drinks, a welcoming crowd, and a rotating lineup of karaoke, drag, and party nights make it an easy first stop.
A few minutes away in Uptown, Town Bar & Lounge is a QPOC-owned cocktail bar set in a beautiful Art Deco space. Start with a well-made drink, then stick around as the DJs take over and the night picks up.
For a bigger night out, Qué Rico is a nightclub and restaurant with deep roots in Oakland’s LGBTQ+ Latin community. The dance floor is high-energy, the show nights are frequent, and the whole place has a celebratory feel.
FLUID510 is a queer event space and supper club downtown with a packed calendar — brunch, comedy nights, themed parties — worth checking if you want more than just drinks.
Summer Bar & Lounge in Old Oakland is a femme-forward spot with a more intimate feel — live music, open mics, karaoke, and small performances that actually feel personal.
