Opened in 2004 and named in memory of a brother lost to AIDS, Pulse grew into one of Orlando's most beloved LGBTQ+ nightclubs — a home of music, family and belonging. On June 12, 2016, during the club's Latin Night, a mass shooting took the lives of 49 people and wounded dozens more, in what was then the deadliest attack on LGBTQ+ people in U.S. history. The club never reopened, and those lost are remembered as "the 49 angels." Today, at the site on South Orange Avenue, the National Pulse Memorial is being created — a reflection space, healing garden and tribute to the victims, the survivors, and a community that answered hatred with overwhelming love. They will not be forgotten.
