Gay Local Tips in Tel Aviv-Yafo

Work hard, Pride harder!

Let Guy be your gay guide through Tel Aviv. This misterb&b host has the perfect deal of tips on where to party, enjoy food and drink, and get the best tan or best view of the Middle East's gay capital. Explore Tel Aviv and experience your Pride.

How gay-friendly is your city? What’s gay life like there?

I would say Tel-Aviv is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world. Many people exaggerate a bit and define it as straight-friendly, but this is not far from true. Every week-night there would normally be an ‘official’ gay party, and 3-4 major gay events to choose from over the weekend.

What are the best gay events that take place in your city each year?

Tel-Aviv Pride Week is definitely the biggest and most famous gay event in Tel-Aviv. It takes place every year in June, and continues to attract more and more tourists each year. The climax is the Pride Parade, which circles through the streets of Tel-Aviv and guarantees a fun afternoon or dancing.

We only have 48 hours in your city. What can’t we miss?

The old city of Jaffa, the historical neighborhood of Neve-Tsedek, and of course Hilton gay beach.

What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?

If I had to choose from a long list of excellent restaurants in Tel-Aviv, I would go for the vegeterian buffet at Cafe Birenbaum for lunch, and then the trendy Port Said for dinner.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

Ha'Achim offers a local cuisine, and is famous for its weekend brunches. The place is also a good option for regular lunch and dinner.

Best gay place and day for a cheap beer or happy hour?

Shpagat is the only official gay café/bar in Tel-Aviv, and is always a good option for an early drink. Don’t expect to find cheap beer in Tel-Aviv.

We’re ready to party! What are the best gay clubs?

Poni electropop party at Pasage on Tuesdays and Dreck at Jimmy Who's pop party on Wednesdays. The most popular option for gay parties on the weekend is Oman club. But I would keep away from the overpriced, overcrowded, and overdrugged parties taking place there.

What are the best alternative gay bars and clubs where you live?

A good alternative is Block Club, which offers a mixed crowd along with top-notch DJs. It is without doubt one of the best clubs in the Middle East.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit in your city?

For architecture buffs, be sure to check out the American-German colony, which was the first neighborhood to be built outside of Jaffa. The small quarter spans just a few streets between Jaffa, Neve-Tsedek and Florentine, and houses some of the most interesting architectural buildings in the city. You can learn about the history of the Mormon settlement in the Beit-Emanuel Guest-House Heritage Center - entrance is free, so enjoy!

Any beaches, parks or best other places to chill-out?

Jaffa Hill Park is a perfect spot to unwind for the afternoon. Also the garden above Hilton beach is worth a visit.

Where you can we get the best view of Tel Aviv?

Gruzenberg Parking on Nahalat-Benyamin Street, across from Café Birenbaum. The entrance is totally free, just take the elevator to the top floor. ●
