The Reveal

CozyRelaxingCentral location

Diamond Sky Retreat is more than a desert rental—it’s our home, thoughtfully restored with care and intention. Set on 2.5 private acres, our 1950s homestead is a welcoming retreat for guests seeking inspiration, rest, or genuine connection in the Mojave. We, Lawrence and Christopher, share this space because we believe the best travel experiences come from feeling at home and connecting with the local community.

The house features three comfy bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it comfortable for couples, friends, or families. Sunlight streams through large windows in the living room, where you can stretch out and unwind. The fully equipped kitchen is ready for shared meals and late-night conversations. Our peaceful rooftop deck is ideal for sunsets, stargazing, or simply listening to the hush of the desert.

We intentionally do not provide streaming or cable TV service here. Instead, you’ll find a collection of over 300 classic and cult-favorite VHS movies, a large vinyl library, and Bluetooth speakers so you can bring your own music. We hope guests will embrace the chance to unplug, slow down, and enjoy the moment, whether that means movie nights, listening to records, reading, or simply doing nothing at all.

Diamond Sky Retreat is a space for writers, artists, and anyone needing a creative recharge, as well as friends and families looking to reconnect away from distractions. Every detail in the house reflects our years in the desert—artwork, vintage pieces, and personal touches that make this a real home, not a generic rental.

As a couple, we’re proud to support queer-owned and inclusive businesses in Joshua Tree and the surrounding area. We’re always happy to share personal recommendations for local coffee shops, bars, galleries, hikes, and community events—just ask, and we’ll help you discover what makes the high desert unique.

The property is spacious and private. Enjoy coffee at sunrise, spot wildlife wandering past, and as the day ends, settle on the rooftop deck for spectacular sunsets and brilliant stars. Joshua Tree National Park, quirky shops, and inclusive venues are all just a short drive away. While the area doesn’t have dedicated LGBTQ+ spaces, you’ll find many places with a genuinely welcoming spirit, and we’re happy to help you connect with the local scene.

We ask that guests treat our home and the desert with care, and respect our neighbors and environment. By booking direct or through platforms like Misterb&b, you help support local, independent spaces and the wider queer community.

Whether you’re here to create, reflect, explore, or simply rest, Diamond Sky Retreat is a calm and welcoming base for your high desert experience. We look forward to welcoming you and hope you’ll feel at home.

For everyone’s safety, security cameras monitor only the exterior entry points and driveway. There are no cameras inside the house.

Nearby Attractions

Joshua Tree and the high desert offer a creative and welcoming spirit, though there are no dedicated LGBTQ+ bars or clubs. Instead, you’ll find a handful of queer-owned businesses, inclusive spaces, and community events. Most people here are open-minded, but—as with any rural area—it’s wise to stay aware and trust your instincts.

Local Favorites:

• The Station (Joshua Tree): Owned by partners, and our longtime friends Steve and Glen, this beloved shop is part roadside attraction, part boutique. Stop in for local gifts, vintage finds, and friendly conversation—a welcoming spot for all.

• Tiny Pony Tavern (Yucca Valley): A relaxed, woman-owned, queer- and trans-staffed bar and restaurant popular with both locals and visitors. Tiny Pony often hosts pop-up queer and drag nights and draws an eclectic, friendly crowd.

• La Copine (Flamingo Heights): Run by partners Claire and Nikki, La Copine offers inventive daytime food in an inclusive, lively setting.

• Frontier Café (Yucca Valley): Another queer-owned favorite, Frontier is a laid-back spot for coffee, lunch, and easy conversation.

Community & Events:

• Joshua Tree Pride: Each June, this grassroots celebration brings together queer locals, friends, and allies for art, music, and community.

• Desert Bingo: A playful, queer-hosted, welcoming event supporting animal shelters and schools. The crowd is mixed and it’s a great way to connect and give back.

Host recommendations

We welcome all guests who value quiet, care, and a true home experience in the desert. Diamond Sky Retreat is not a generic rental—it’s a place we love and share so others can enjoy the beauty, solitude, and creativity of Joshua Tree. We ask you to help us preserve this experience for everyone by observing a few essential rules: Respect for Home & Furnishings: • Please treat our home and all its contents with care. Many items are one-of-a-kind, vintage, or custom-made. • Do not move furniture, décor, plants, or artwork inside or outside. • Professional photography or filming is not allowed without prior written approval. • Glitter, confetti, balloons, colored powders, and party favors are not permitted. These are harmful to the environment and very difficult to clean. Guests & Gatherings: • Only registered guests are allowed on the property. No unapproved parties, weddings, or events. • Joshua Tree has strict occupancy rules—please ensure your group size matches your booking. Unapproved guests may result in additional fees or cancellation. • Our home is not suitable for parties or loud gatherings. Please keep all activities respectful and low key. Quiet Hours & Neighborhood: • Quiet hours are from 10PM to 8AM. No outdoor amplified music during those times. • Sound travels far in the desert; keep voices down, especially outdoors after dark. • No drones, firearms, fireworks, or disruptive activity at any time. • Joshua Tree is known for its peaceful nights and stargazing; help us preserve this for everyone. Nature & Wildlife: • Please respect the local wildlife and landscape. Do not disturb animals, remove plants or rocks, or leave food or trash outside. • Pick up any litter, especially at night when wind can scatter debris into the desert and neighboring properties. • Stay on paths and avoid damaging the fragile ecosystem. Fire Safety: • Fires are permitted only in the designated fire pit, and never on windy nights. • Use only store-bought firewood. Do not burn trash, local wood, or desert plants. • Never use lighter fluid, fireworks, sparklers, or candles outdoors. • Never leave fires unattended. Fully extinguish before leaving or sleeping. • Smoking is allowed outdoors only and away from doors. Dispose of all cigarette waste properly. Pets: • Small, well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior approval and a cleaning fee. • Dogs must be leashed outdoors (coyotes are common) and owners must clean up after them. Safety & Desert Awareness: • The desert is beautiful, but can be harsh. Always bring plenty of water, use sun protection, and avoid strenuous activities in extreme heat. • Children are welcome, but our home is not childproofed and contains delicate items; supervision is required at all times. • No camping, RVs, or overnight vehicles are allowed on the property. General Respect: • Treat our neighbors and the community with kindness and consideration. • No professional photo/video shoots, parties, or events without our written approval. • Please enjoy our home and the desert, and leave both as you found them. We’re grateful to share Diamond Sky Retreat with respectful travelers from all backgrounds. Your care and thoughtfulness help us keep this space welcoming for everyone.
