Manuel Antonio is one of the most open and welcoming destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers in Costa Rica, with a relaxed, beachy and very international atmosphere. The best known reference in the area is Playitas, the most LGBTQ+-friendly sector of Playa Espadilla: it is usually the favorite spot for sunbathing, walking by the sea and enjoying a free and unpretentious vibe. For those who prefer something more secluded, Playa La Macha offers a more private and natural experience, in a jungle setting and with trail access, ideal for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the scenery with more tranquility.
In addition to its beaches, Manuel Antonio National Park is well worth a visit for its combination of jungle, wildlife and spectacular beaches; it is one of those places that summarizes very well the beauty of this area. I also recommend walking around the area of Manuel Antonio and Quepos at sunset, enjoy the viewpoints and go out to eat or drink something in places with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
As for restaurants and cafes, I really like Emilio's Café for breakfast, desserts and nice views; Café Milagro for coffee and tropical cuisine; El Avión for a casual dinner with great ambiance and sunset view; and La Luna or Cava if you are looking for a more special dinner. For an adults-only experience, ARBOL is also an excellent choice. Not all of these places specifically present themselves as LGBTQ+, but they do fit in nicely with the inclusive and relaxed atmosphere that Manuel Antonio is known for.
If you want to go out at night, Manuel Antonio is also reputed to have one of the most visible LGBTQ+ scenes outside of San Jose, with bars, parties and spaces where the community and travelers feel comfortable. Overall, it's an ideal destination for combining nature, beach, sunsets and a very natural and uncomplicated queer-friendly atmosphere.
