The space was not only spotless but also beautifully decorated, with thoughtful touches like tropical plants, snacks in the room and all about smart home things. It truly felt like they cared about my experience. If you're looking for a place where you'll feel welcomed and cared for, this is it. The Generator appeals to mostly younger people who want budget accommodation in pods and dorms, but we got a "DeLuxe" room, which was a bit cramped but adequate, but certainly not Deluxe - it had no TV - compared to other hotels we stayed at. Quiet (you can avoid the parties in the basement) and clean, with an excellent cafe and (paid for) breakfast. Lovely staff, and can leave your luggage (paid for too) if needed. But much too expensive, as with everything in Amsterdam."

A cheap and well stocked bar, €10 pizzas (& free drink) available 24/7 that taste fantastic & always helpful and friendly staff! The showers are brilliant, so hot & so powerful! The location of the hostel couldn't be better. You are right in the centre and not far at all from the train station. Their secure locker system is brilliant, plenty of space and cheap! You also get a locker with your bed, remember to bring a lock!
I have stayed here a few times now and it's absolutely brilliant each time, the guests are all friendly & you will make many new friends, I would definitely, 100%, recommend this hostel to everyone!"

The room was incredibly tiny for a small double room. The sink and bathroom toilet were too close to each other. You had to have your legs under the sink if sitting on the toilet. We had to keep the window blinds closed because of other individuals in adjacent buildings looking in on us. Taxi service to the airport is great."

Then we talked to Aru at the desk and mentioned we were visiting for World Pride and our 30th anniversary. Instant upgrade from Aru to a 2bdrm with a big tub. 😁But more importantly a big friendly personal smile and extra mile from Aru everyday. Soon enough May was doing the same even housekeeping. We felt welcomed valued and our business was appreciated. We ❤Amsterdam, Aru and her Mosaic Crew!"

Robert·4·Aug. 2026· "I wouldn’t have stayed here if I knew there was no air conditioning. I had to go to the front desk in the middle of my 1st night, as it was too hot to sleep. The desk, clearly, knew of the issue as they immediately offered me a fan. So, why not put a fans in rooms if they already know. They charge ((price gouge) for laundry, with only one washer working in the 7 days of my stay. Guests backed up to use. A waste of my limited time there. There competition I’ve stayed in have included laundry, there a sauna but there another have to pay rip off. Why do the rooms have a dishwasher but no microwave? I do understand. It is quiet and convenient but the above, in my view, needs correction. Business nowadays does not understand the concept of ‘goodwill’ ( return customers). The checkout person asked if I enjoyed my stay. When I said the above, there was no response! They’ve clearly heard all of this previously. "
