The Peel

The Peel is one of the most iconic and longest-running gay clubs in Melbourne, a Collingwood institution that's been the beating heart of the city's Northside queer nightlife since 1990. Famous well beyond Australia, it made legal history when its owner won a landmark tribunal exemption allowing it to prioritize gay men at the door, protecting a space where they can meet, socialize and express attraction as freely as straight couples do everywhere else. Across three bars, a dance floor and a courtyard, it throws what many simply call "the gayest party in town," with DJs spinning dance anthems and 80s hits, regular drag acts and special events, and a genuinely diverse crowd, young and old, tradies and professionals, drags and trans folks, and everyone in between. Free entry, pub-priced drinks and doors open till dawn make it the classic late-night, last-stop destination once everything else has closed.
