I have spent more nights than I can count on Santa Monica Boulevard, and what I keep coming back to is the sheer variety: the gay bars in Los Angeles cover every mood, every aesthetic, and every hour of the night with a confidence that few cities in the world can match. West Hollywood's bar strip is the main event - a stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega and Robertson that has been the beating heart of gay LA nightlife for decades - but the scene extends well beyond it, into Silver Lake's alternative queer venues and East Hollywood's leather and Latino bars. With 50+ gay bars and clubs in Los Angeles on misterb&b, the city is one of the great gay nightlife destinations on the planet, and the quality has only improved in recent years. Whether you are in town for a quiet cocktail or a night that ends at sunrise, gay Los Angeles has it. 🏳️🌈

"Trunk bar in Weho best vibe n good strong drinks with fair price but if ur in Weho already I recommend bar hopping , In the valley club Cobra if you like Latino vibe Music is electrifier"
"8:30–10:30 PM: The Abbey Food & Bar Start here for the full WeHo energy, drinks, social warm-up, easy mingling. 10:30 PM–12:30 AM: Rocco's WeHo Next door chaos, louder, flirtier, more fun once everyone's properly marinated. 12:30 AM onward: Mickey's WeHo Late-night peak nonsense: dancing, drag, go-go boys, actual "LA gay night out" energy."
When I want to start a night in West Hollywood, I always head to The Abbey Food & Bar first. It started as a small coffee shop in 1991 and has become what many consider the single most famous gay bar in the world - it has won the MTV Logo Best Gay Bar in the World award twice, and on any given weekend its multi-level indoor-outdoor space is packed with every kind of person: drag queens holding court on the terrace, muscle guys at the bar, tourists mixing with locals, and a DJ setting the temperature for the evening. The food is genuinely good, which is rarer than you would think for a bar of this scale, and the cocktails are strong and crafted. Going early - around 5pm - gives you the terrace in the afternoon light before the volume cranks up. Going at midnight gives you something entirely different. Both are worth experiencing.
One of the bars I always come back to for dancing is Micky's - a WeHo institution since 1989 with a two-storey layout and a dance floor that gets genuinely sweaty on Friday nights. Their Monday Showgirls drag event has built a cult following over the years, and the go-go dancers are a WeHo staple. For Drag Brunch - and I have done a lot of Drag Brunches in a lot of cities - my preference when I am in WeHo is Mattie's WeHo (formerly Rocco's), which sits right on the corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente by the iconic rainbow crosswalk. It is gay-owned, it is operated with genuine community pride, and the 5,000-square-foot space fills up fast on Saturday and Sunday mornings - book ahead. For a dive bar that feels genuinely like a local's bar rather than a tourist destination, Mother Lode on Santa Monica Boulevard is the one I come back to: strong drinks, no attitude, and a crowd that has been coming here for years. The Bayou WeHo is the New Orleans-themed dive on the strip - cheap drinks, Cajun food, and a rowdy, unpretentious atmosphere that I find myself at more often than planned.
The gay bar scene in Los Angeles covers ground that very few cities can match. For sports: the one I always head to is Hi Tops on Santa Monica - a proper gay sports bar where you can watch every major game and actually enjoy the atmosphere. The owner described it as "a gay bar where you can bring your parents" and that is exactly right: welcoming, no attitude, genuine sports bar energy. For the leather and bears crowd, my preference is heading east to Eagle LA in East Hollywood - one of the great leather bars in the United States, with a strong local following and regular fetish nights that draw from across Southern California. Trunks is WeHo's traditional relaxed sports bar - over 25 years old and still going strong with daily drink specials from 1pm. For something more glamorous and lounge-y, Beaches WeHo has a fun 80s Miami aesthetic and Pina Coladas that are genuinely excellent. Silver Lake's Honey's at Star Love is the queer watering hole I recommend to travelers who want something more intimate and alternative - open Thursdays to Saturdays, with DJ nights, comedy, and karaoke.
The best way to experience gay nightlife in Los Angeles is to be based right inside it. A misterb&b stay in West Hollywood puts you within walking distance of every bar on the strip - no Uber, no logistics, just step outside and you are there. Over 1 million LGBTQ+ travelers use misterb&b, and the LA community is one of the most active on the platform. Hosts here genuinely know where to go, which nights matter, and what is worth skipping.

Yes. Silver Lake has a well-established alternative gay bar scene including Akbar and Honey's at Star Love. East Hollywood has several Latino queer bars with drag shows and a very different energy from WeHo. Eagle LA is the main leather bar, located in East Hollywood.
Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest in WeHo, with packed dance floors and go-go dancers. Sunday afternoons and evenings have a strong following, with Drag Brunch and a relaxed day-into-night vibe. Monday nights at Micky's are famously lively due to their Showgirls drag event.
Yes. Eagle LA in East Hollywood is the city's main leather bar, attracting a fetish and gear-oriented crowd. The Faultline nearby is more bear and scruffy-friendly. Both are well outside WeHo but worth the Uber.
Most WeHo bars are free entry or have minimal cover on standard nights. Cover charges increase during special events, Pride weekend, and holiday parties. The Abbey and Micky's sometimes charge cover on peak nights.
