Townie Bagels is a proudly gay-owned breakfast staple in the heart of Sunny Dunes, Palm Springs' compact, walkable LGBTQ+ neighborhood. Owner and lead baker Andy Wysocki does things the old-school way, no-additive flours mixed and shaped the night before, then boiled in malted water and baked upside down before flipping, for a true New York-style bagel with a shiny, chewy crust that steamed impostors just can't match. Beyond the roughly 22 bagel varieties (with weekend-only specials like olive fennel and pretzel), there's a build-your-own sandwich menu, fresh scones, muffins and cookies, rotating sourdough loaves, salads, a beloved chicken pot pie, and good coffee and espresso. The sunny outdoor patio is a lovely spot to linger over breakfast, though expect a line on weekends, that's just Palm Springs. A local and visitor favorite alike, and an easy first stop before exploring the rest of the gayborhood.
