Fabien in Marseille shares his top gay tips on what to do in France's second-biggest hub. A port city in the south of the country, Marseille has a thriving LGBT scene. If you've already tried Paris, why not try a trip to sunny Marseille and stay with Fabien?

How gay-friendly is your city? What’s gay life like there?

Marseille is neither overly gay-friendly nor homophobic. In fact, it's actually quite indifferent, and this is cool!
 Saying that, gay life is widespread in the city. There's no specific gay area (unlike Le Marais in Paris) but several bars, saunas and discos. The Vieux Port side is known to be the most gay-friendly place.



What are the best gay events that take place there?

The Gay Pride in July, of course, with the demonstration, events and a great night at Les Docks.



We only have 48 hours in your city. What can’t we miss?

OK, don’t miss Le Panier, which is the oldest area in Marseille, nor the Pharo Palace and its view of the port. You should also make time to visit the MUCEM and its fabulous architecture, some beaches southwards, and some pubs along the port!

What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch or dinner?

I’d say La Marche à suivre, a gay-friendly restaurant with excellent meat.

And a gay place for brunch on weekends?

You'll find the best brunch at Ambassade de Bretagne in Les Docks.

The best day for a cheap beer or happy hour?

Probably The Shamrock pub on the port

We’re ready to party! What's the best gay club?

The New Cancan nightclub, definitely.

What are the best alternative gay bars?

The Pulse on the cours Julien or Play in rue Breteuil

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit?

When the weather is good you can visit the nudist rocky beaches to the south, known as Le Mont Rose.

Finally, from where can we get the best view of (your city)?

For sure it's from the Notre Dame de la Garde basilique! Amazing views! ●
