Malta is a little island oasis in the middle of the Mediterranean and surprisingly gay-friendly. The gay scene is pretty small, but follow our host Luke's tips to make the most of it in Malta. Explore the world. Discover your pride.
How gay-friendly is Malta?
Well, Malta is a very small island but it's very gay-friendly: you can even get married here! The gay scene is pretty small also, given the size of the island. There are only a couple of gay bars but it's still quite easy to experience gay life on this sunny spot in the Mediterranean.
What are the best gay events in Malta?
The only mainly gay event is Malta Gay Pride and Pride Week, no doubt about that. Then there are the weekly gay parties at Michelangelo’s, they are usually quite busy and people always have a blast.

We have 48 hours in Malta. What can’t we miss?
Malta is very wealthy in terms of history: the oldest temples date back over 5,000 years. Our capital Valletta is a must to explore and I would suggest dinner and drinks there, too. There are some awesome beaches to explore and plenty of places where you can have fun.
We’re ready to party! The best gay clubs?
The best place to dance your night away surrounded by a mainly gay population is Michelangelo's. As it's one of the only gay bars in Malta, it's one of the busiest. Another quite famous bar is Monaliza; it’s more popular amongst the older crowd and the bear community. It has a nice patio and you can even get good food there.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit in Malta?
There are many hidden gems tucked away on this little island: secluded beaches, quaint hidden restaurants and a few local hot spots you cannot miss like typical restaurants and open patio bars. I'm always willing to help guests plan their time here... I’m very open-minded so guests can feel free to ask whatever, no judgement.

Any beaches or other places to chill-out?
When it comes to beaches in Malta you can feel sometimes spoiled. You have many to choose from, for example; Blue Lagoon, Daħlet Qorrot, Dwejra Bay and Riviera Bay.
We don’t have any specific gay beach here and that’s because Malta’s population is very gay-friendly. There’s no reason to hide; we mingle with the rest of the community and I feel that’s the way it should always be. ●
