The Reveal

CozyRelaxing

Your home from home for as long as you plan to stay. The accommodation is a large spacious, super comfortable en-suite room in my house in Courtown. It’s an ideal place to stay for a tranquil get away or as a base for touring the South East of Ireland. You’ll have full, unrestricted access to the house facilities including the sun room, kitchen, living area, garden etc. I travel a fair bit, so if your booking coincides with a trip you’ll also have the full place to yourself. Though if I’m here, and you want it, I’ll provide you with a cooked or continental breakfast at no additional charge. I live alone with my gorgeous, friendly as anything dog, Rio.

The house is located at the entrance to Courtown Harbour Village. The village itself, its shops, pubs, restaurants and sea views are a seven minute stroll away. Immediately opposite the house is Courtown Woods, with it’s wonderful riverside walking trails that lead to great beaches and any many other stunning sea-adjacent walking trails. The bustling town of Gorey is only 4km from the house and the M11 motorway is even closer.

Co. Wexford and Co. Wicklow have many of the most beautiful and interesting natural and historical sties in Ireland. You’ll be well placed at mine if you’re driving to be able to explore and discover this wonderful part of the world. It’s a walker and hikers' paradise. There are too many places to note but the gentle cliff top walk from Cahore Point to Curracloe beach (where the beach scenes in Saving Private Ryan were filmed) is a particular favourite. No matter what your plans, you'll find a warm welcome and lasting memories from your time in glorious Courtown.

Hi guys. After many years living in London I’m now back home in Ireland enjoying a semi-retired life. I’m a single 51y/o former High School Principal who now dabbles in self-employment and consultancy. I love where I live and the contrast it provides from, what was, a very stressful way of living. If you’re a fan of fresh air, AMAZING scenery, beautiful walks and winding down, come visit. 2024 I’ll be focusing on renovating and landscaping my garden, bit by bit. As well as gardening I’ve a mixed bag of interests. Formula 1 and Eurovision are particular passions, and others include current affairs, musicals, DIY, politics, country walks/hikes, watching rugby, reading, cooking, eating out and woodworking. I’m a single dog dad to the aging Rio, although he shows no signs of slowing down yet. As a host I’m very personable but not intrusive. Many of my friends cite me as one of the most easy-going people they’ve ever met (although I’m not always sure that’s a good thing lol). As my guest(s) you can expect me to be as uninvolved or helpful as you’d like. You really will be able to make yourself feel at home. I’m increasingly using my time to travel for pleasure, so I am always looking out for new friends along the way. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to know more or link up.

Host recommendations

I was tempted to avail of the 'clothing optional' rule when making this listing but I thought it better to explain this here. In general I've nothing against it if it's important to you as I do it myself. However our mutual judgement and your discretion would be appreciated. The front of the house has lovely big windows and, while set back from the road, passers by could see into the downstairs of the house.

Martin, and his home were a 5 star plus experience for us! His attentive communication throughout, his attention to every detail, his knowledge of Ireland and his impeccable hospitality were top notch. From the moment Martin met us at the front door, when we arrived, we knew we were in for a treat. His warmth and kindness made us feel so welcome and "at home" immediately. The room was beautiful and the bed beyond comfortable! The breakfast he prepared for us, was above and beyond and brought back special memories of the delightful and traditional Bed and Breakfast experience we had, in days gone by. Without a doubt, staying with Martin, in his beautiful home, will be an experience you will treasure on your visit to Ireland's beautiful and picturesque Southwest.

Martin was a superb and friendly host. He knew loads about the local area and surroundings and had lots of tips and ideas of how I could spend my day. The local area was lovely and lots of beautiful scenery so lots to see and do. I went for a run in the morning and it was a great location for walks or runs. The accommodation was amazing with a very large and stunning room with en-suite with everything I could have asked for. Breakfast was included and much appreciated.

Martin's house really was a home away from home. Both he and his gorgeous dog Rio welcomed me to their cosy home where a wood fire was blazing. The room provided was large and spacious with an ensuite in a nice quiet part of the house. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Martin's hospitality is second to none. He provided excellent recommendations for the local area and also made me feel very welcome, especially with a delicious cooked breakfast in the mornings. If you need an escape from the busy city life, I highly recommend Martin's home for a relaxing getaway to the Irish countryside!
