I have been to Pride across the UK more times than I can remember - from the million who line Regent Street for London Pride to the 3,000 who march in a town of 30,000 in a smaller city where every person in the crowd knows the stakes are personal. The United Kingdom is where Pride in Europe found its form. The first UK march was London 1972, just three years after Stonewall. Today the UK has 9 major Pride events from Belfast to Edinburgh, from the Brighton seafront to the cobbled streets of Manchester's Gay Village. misterb&b data shows a +45% booking surge in London during Pride month - the city transforms. The UK legalised same-sex marriage in England and Wales in 2014, Scotland in 2014, and Northern Ireland finally in 2020 - and every one of those milestones was marched for. This is your complete guide to Gay Pride across the United Kingdom in 2026. 🏳️🌈

History of Gay Pride in the UK - from London 1972 to marriage equality
The first Gay Pride march in the United Kingdom took place in London on July 1, 1972, just three years after Stonewall and two years after homosexuality was decriminalised in England and Wales. The march drew approximately 2,000 participants. Today London Pride draws 1 million+ spectators to Regent Street. The United Kingdom has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ rights in Europe: decriminalisation in England and Wales (1967), Section 28 repealed (2003), civil partnerships (2004), same-sex marriage in England and Wales and Scotland (2014), and finally Northern Ireland (2020). Belfast Pride carries particular weight as Northern Ireland was the last part of the UK to achieve marriage equality - the community marched for it every year until the law changed.
