Black Eagle is Toronto's main leather bar and one of the longest-running cruising bars in the city, part of the global network of "Eagle" bars that trace back to the leather and biker scenes of the 1970s. Dark and industrial inside, with exposed brick, low light, and a long bar, it's softened its dress code over the years (jeans are fine, full leather isn't required), making it a welcoming, no-attitude alternative to the youth-driven dance bars further up Church Street. There's a darkroom for the adventurous, and a lively rooftop patio that's a genuine draw on sunny afternoons. The weekly calendar rotates through bear, fetish, leather, retro, jockstrap, and underwear-party themes, with guest DJs on weekends and Sunday's beloved Retro Night a longtime regular favorite (resident DJ Marc Felco has quite the following). Friendly, accepting, and far from pretentious, it remains a beloved fixture of the Village for a mix of regulars, leathermen, bears, and curious first-timers alike.
