How gay-friendly is Cape Town?
Cape Town, especially the Atlantic Seaboard, is very gay-friendly for tourists. We're an active bunch, as likely to meet up for hikes or tennis as we are to go and grab a drink.
What are the best gay events that take place in Cape Town each year?
The best gay event is Mother City Queer Pride, Africa's largest queer costume party. Thousands of people attend each December wearing next to nothing and covered in glitter. The annual Cape Town Gay Pride events take place over two weeks in February and March.

We only have 48 hours in Cape Town. What can’t we miss?
Take a road trip down the Cape Peninsula or out to the winelands. The red bus tours are an excellent way to see the city’s highlights in just a day or two.
What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?
Mink & Trout on Bree Street.
A gay place for brunch on weekends?
My favourite is Jarryds in Sea Point. They use Fairtrade ingredients and locally roasted coffee. It’s delicious; you really get a sense of home there!

Best gay place for a cheap beer?
The Bootlegger Coffee Company on Regent Road in Sea Point has a daily Happy Hour between 16:30pm and 18:30 pm. Our local Cape Brewing Company (CBC) Lager and Amber Weiss are half price at that time, so a pint only costs about €1.5! The best gay-specific bar is Café Manhattan.
We’re ready to party! Best gay clubs?
Zer021 is always a jol - South African slang for “good time”. Other classics include Crew and Beaulah Bar. Some new entrants to the scene are Pink Panther and Babylon.

Best alternative gay venues in Cape Town?
Gate69 is a new cabaret venue. Beefcakes has regular drag shows, so make sure to check it out if you’re in for some shade and glamour.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit in your city?
The Secret Gin Bar behind Honest Chocolate.
Any beaches, parks or best other places to chill-out?
Sandy Bay is the nude beach, and Clifton is notoriously gay. Glen Beach is a hidden gem between Camps Bay and Clifton.

Finally, where can we get the best view of Cape Town?
From my apartment, the tallest building on the Atlantic Seaboard! :) If you’re feeling ambitious, hike up Lion’s Head. ●
