King Private Room in a historic home in the residential National Historic District of Highland Park, minutes from Midtown and Downtown. Quiet, art filled, large home with porch and gardens for sunbathing, reading, and more. This is a second floor bedroom with lots of privacy. I often host gay, bi, trans, and gender nonconforming guests, as well as racially diverse folks. I have been hosting travelers for almost 15 years.
Small desk in your room for WFH or laptop use, and your own provate sitting area in a large room. Also enjoy the historic blue bathroom, which is shared with the only only upstairs room if booked (if not, you'll have it all to yourself).
You are welcome to use the large sunny kitchen with all stainless new appliances, Vitamix, instapot, etc. to cook your meals if you like! space for you in fridge and cupboard for your foods. You also have the use of the breakfast room, dining room, living room, laundry room, basically all common areas on the main floor of the historic art filled home.
There is usually me, one or two guests, and one or two long term house residents. We share the big kitchen (fully equipped), which you are welcome to use to cook your meals. I have a vitamix and a instapot, too. I provide lots of coffee, tea, oatmeal, and other treats for breakfast and snacks in our breakfast room.
I'm not a partier, but I can give you other local recs, and the peaceful house is intended to be a low substance use environment. Please be quiet coming and going if you keep late night hours. You can spend time here in quiet and rest, between your busy social times out and about Detroit.
Check in is betwen 3pm and 8pm only, I cannot accomodate late night check in after 8pm due to my schedule, sorry!
Please note: - Historic home original interior bed or bath doors do not offer high security hotel style locks, please make sure you are ok with this. On request, I can give you a special lock to lock your belongings in your closet if you like, just ask. - Parking is on the street only (not in shared driveway or garage). We have never had any issues but park at your own risk. - Original windows and historic home mean the second floor is warm in summer (esp July and August), and cooler in winter (esp January and February). I will turn up the forced air for you and provide fans but please be prepared that its not like a new built home. - Antiracist folks welcome in our ungentrificatied, economically diverse, urban, historically black neighborhood.
