Thoughtfully renovated and reimagined by two artists in 2021, this whimsical townhouse was designed to inspire creativity, imagination, and connection. Every corner reflects an artistic point of view, from hand-painted architectural details and playful color palettes to original contemporary artwork and carefully curated vintage pieces. Designed with free spirits and creative travelers in mind, The Bird House offers a stay that feels deeply personal, expressive, and unmistakably San Miguel.

Located on a quiet residential street in the historic Centro of San Miguel de Allende, the home is just a flat walk from the city’s main square, galleries, cafés, rooftop restaurants, and cultural landmarks. Yet once inside, the house feels like its own private creative world — peaceful, vibrant, and full of character.

The interiors were intentionally designed to spark inspiration. One of the artists behind the renovation created whimsical painted door frames and large-scale Persian-inspired artwork throughout the home, while celebrated local painter Rafael Ontiveros transformed the terrace with a dramatic mural and filled the home with his original paintings. Ontiveros is a respected Mexican contemporary artist whose work has appeared in international biennales and exhibitions, adding an authentic connection to San Miguel’s thriving art scene.

The main floor features a colorful open kitchen with bar seating, a dining area, and a warm living room with comfortable seating and a large TV. The kitchen itself feels like an art installation — joyful, bold, and inviting — making even simple moments feel creative and alive. The living room also includes privacy curtains and a full adjacent bathroom, allowing the space to function as an additional sleeping area for guests or anyone seeking a more accessible first-floor setup.

Upstairs, the home offers two inviting bedrooms — one with a king bed and one with a queen bed — along with a dedicated office and reading space complete with a daybed for additional guests. Mini-split heating and air conditioning provide comfort throughout the bedrooms and office, while large windows and artistic touches create a sense of warmth and inspiration throughout the upper level.

The rooftop terrace is perhaps the soul of The Bird House. Filled with towering cactus, desert plants, lounge seating, and shaded dining areas, the terrace feels like a private rooftop art garden above the city.
