The Reveal

CozyGreat for Fitness LoversRelaxing

This lovely room has a balcony that looks out onto a quiet, leafy street in Coopers Plains. The double bed has a high quality latex rubber mattress with a memory mattress overlay on a completely flat, sturdy base. However, the bed has ends at the head and the feet, so tall people may find it too short. There is a side table, lamp, built in wardrobe and of course linen. There is a bathroom/laundry off the lounge room that is rarely shared, so most of the time it's all yours. There's a spacious open-plan living room, well-appointed kitchen and rear deck overlooking a productive, permaculture food garden I tend to and harvest and prepare meals from. Your breakfast will come from the organic garden, shops and rescue sources. Designed for sustainability and convenience, the house is a comfortable two-story modern home in a traditional Queensland style. I'm happy to share meals with a temporary traveller but you can come and go freely. Please tidy up afterwards. I'm delighted to introduce you to the area and friends, neighbours, etc.. There's a gym in the garage and you're welcome to work out with me. There is also a spare bicycle you can use - I often cycle to shops, etc.. The QE11 Hospital is 5 minutes walk away and shops just a bit further. Griffith University and it's sustainability centre is just up the hill. Transport is convenient to the city - 15 mins by car on the M3, 30 minutes by bus and the airport express train station is a short bus or taxi ride away, but I'm happy to pick you up if I'm available.

I'm a friendly, well educated, easy-going fella with a good sense of humour and although conservative on some issues, very progressive on others. Very open to respectful discussions about just about anything. I'm keen on these kind of sharing, open-source ideas that make better use of facilities, put people in touch and in some ways create more community. I am highly self-sufficient and spend my spare time in the community promoting degrowth and keeping fit. I speak some Japanese and taught English for 30 years.

Host recommendations

You can come and go as you please and I'm always pleased to hear you say hello or goodbye. The ground floor unit is usually occupied so please be friendly and conscious of noise traveling. No smoking on the property (except maybe a shared u-no-wot) and it's quiet time from 10pm to 7am (Winter), 9pm to 6am (Summer). Please be efficiency conscious - the house is fully insulated, so use windows and curtains to control the temperature and don't leave fans or lights running. Please be water-wise. These help keep the room charge low. Tidy up after yourself. Pets don't mix with the house and garden, but I do have chooks (that's Aussie for 'chickens'). Visitors are welcome, if introduced. There is no lock to the internal door to this bedroom. Of course the external doors to the balcony have locks and these should be locked at night and when you go out. Keep valuables with you.

What a lovely home and garden. It was such a treat to eat fresh-picked bananas from the backyard! Simon is a sweet host, and the bed was comfy. I highly recommend this jewel.

Simon is a super friendly host and the B&B was great - exactly what we had expected, maybe even better. We were allowed to even park in the garage. If we ever visit Brisbane again, first we'll check if Simon's place is available.

What a satisfying experience at Simon's place. A lovely, comfortable house with a range of spaces to relax. I particularly enjoyed breakfast and coffee on the back deck overlooking the verdant produce garden. Simon was an amiable host, willing to spend time answering my many questions and sourcing the information I needed to navigate the city on my first 3 day trip to Brissy. The house bike was a bonus - I used it to ride to the local Asian restaurants and also along the Veloway to Southbank - a gorgeous ride. Overall, a delightful weekend with a great host in Brizvegas :) Fully recommended!!

My room as very spacious and comfortable. I made sure the curtains were closed for the glaring sunrise. Simon was a very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating host. He kindly cooked me a delightful bacon, and eggs with herbs from his own garden and eggs from his chook! The house is located in a very quiet residencial area. I had the pleasure to explore the Griffith uni grounds as well as surrounds of mount Gravatt and Toohey forest park. It's close to the bus stops and not too far from the train station. Well located. I had a great time
